Why visit Lucca while camping at Barco Reale?

In the north of Tuscany you can find the walled city of Lucca, founded by the Etruscans and became a Roman colony 180 BC. This city is so special because it is one of the few cities in Italy which maintained the medieval walls through time very well.

The historical centre of Lucca still preserves the Roman street plan, and there are still traces from its amphiteatre at the Piazza dell'Anfiteatro. It is a small city full of ancient history, but at the same time it is not overcrowded with tourists. Lucca definitely is one of the most beautiful cities in Tuscany.
