Bicycle touring

Exploring Montalbano hills, slowing down the pace and enjoying every single detail of this unique land

Road Routes

Cycling is part of the Tuscan DNA, so much so that many great champions (Bartali, Nencini, Magni, Cipollini, Bettini, Bartoli, Tafi, Ballerini, Nibali, to name a few) were born and raised here. Many others from abroad (Cavendish, Sorensen, and others) have moved here where several top cycling teams are based and where the climate and roads are perfect for training.

Montalbano is the hill range where Barco Reale campsite is located. It divides the Upper Valdarno (Florence-Prato-Pistoia plain) from the Lower Valdarno (Montecatini Terme-Lucca-Pisa plain). It extends from Serravalle Pistoiese to the Arno River in Signa and, via the Trave del Montalbano (a path that runs along the entire ridge), allows you to reach Florence along roads and paths with little or no motor traffic.
